The importance of sports nutrition in golf to optimize focus and performance

Although golf is not an intense endurance sport, nutrition plays a crucial role. It is not uncommon to experience a drop in energy between the 12th and 14th hole. By then, it is already too late and the entire end of the game will be heavily impacted. To perform on the green, golfers must maintain their concentration, accuracy and mental endurance for more than 4 hours. Carbohydrates for consistent performance

Consuming complex carbohydrates such as oatmeal, wholemeal bread or fruit before a round helps to stabilize blood sugar levels. These foods provide energy gradually, helping the player to avoid fatigue and crashes during the round. For regular intake, light snacks such as energy bars , energy compotes , bananas or nuts are also recommended throughout the round. A sports energy drink consumed regularly will also be very useful if you do not want to eat solid foods.

Omega-3 and water for concentration and reactivity

Golf shots require precision and quick decision-making, qualities that nutrition can enhance. Omega-3 fatty acids, found in oily fish and nuts, support brain health, improving concentration and memory. Similarly, drinking enough water is essential to stay alert. Even mild dehydration can impair concentration, making each shot more difficult. In hot weather, it is advisable to consume hydration drinks rich in vitamins and minerals to compensate for losses due to sweating.

Proteins for injury recovery and prevention

Golf works the muscles of the back, arms and core. After a round, consuming protein, such as that found in yogurt, chicken or legumes, helps repair muscle tissue and prevent soreness. A protein bar eaten during the round or as a snack afterwards will provide 10g of protein.
